The New York Urban League (NYUL) will celebrate its Centennial Anniversary at the 55th Annual Frederick Douglass Awards Virtual Gala on March 16, 2021. Vernon B. Jordan is the Honorary Chair. The legendary Hank Aaron, Michael Dowling (CEO, Northwell), Raymond J. McGuire (Vice Chairman, Citigroup), and Daniel Schulman (CEO, PayPal) will receive NYUL’s most coveted honor – the Frederick Douglass Award. Crystal McCrary will receive the Ann Kheel award, named for the civic leader and founder of the Frederick Douglass Awards Dinner. The Honorary Committee includes Billye Aaron, Harry Belafonte, Hon. David Dinkins, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Spike Lee, David Winfield, Cole Anthony and Ella Anthony. NYUL continually challenges the status quo and existing inequities of our society, and as one of the oldest civil rights organizations in New York City their impact has been felt for generations. Gala sponsorships assist NYUL’s COVID-19 and educational response efforts, including providing resources and virtual programming to those affected by COVID-19, introducing a COVID-19 Emergency Fund, which provides grants to students and families in NYUL’s employment and youth services, volunteering at local food pantries, and other much-needed initiatives.
